Plasti-scene

The house is now plasticized. (Here's the kitchen.) This insulation crew only likes to start halfway through the day, so it took them two days to get it done instead of one full day. (Master bedroom)
But it's about done! (Girls' Room)
And the tar paper is near completion, too. (Office)
Drywall is expected to arrive on the 4th and it's looking like we'll be ready for them!

Snow Day

Darcy may have stayed home from work today because of the snow, but that doesn't mean other people did! The tar paper people were here again.
And the insulators came, too.
They had lots of people working on it and were able to get it all done in one day!
The master bedroom looks like one big pillow! Maybe someone thought we wouldn't be able to handle being home owners so they made it a padded room! Lol!
They've also got the plastic moisture-barrier stuff up. After the drywall comes (which should be soon!) then they (or someone else?) will come and spray insulation in the attic. Once the drywall is on then it really starts looking like a live-able house!

Wrapping Paper?

No sooner had I posted about not much interesting happening with our house than I look out the window and see some guys wrapping our house with tar paper!
Cheryl (our interior design person) also came by and helped us figure out how to transition from wood to carpet without it looking silly. Now that that's all figured out the next meeting will be to pick light fixtures (and no doubt colors and plumbing fixtures and a bunch of other things! Those meetings are never quick, but we get a lot accomplished.)

Boring Stuff

For those of you anxiously wondering why I haven't posted anything lately, that's because the stuff going on now is all boring. Chris is almost finished the electrical, but it's just connecting wires and stuff that you can't really tell what's going on in a picture. We've also had a security system wired, but again, kinda boring. I think the electrical inspection is set for today or tomorrow, and we're waiting for the gas people to come hook us up. (They're late!) We've got all the wood for our front deck, but it's sitting in the garage right now. If the weather continues to be cold and snowy for the rest of the week Darcy might have time to work on it. Other than that, there's just been some backing added and a support for the trusses in the roof. So stuff is happening, but it's kinda boring. I promise to post some pictures as soon as something interesting happens.

Itinerary

We just got the itinerary from our builder of what's to come:

Insulation on the 29th
Drywall on the 4th
Vacuum on the 22nd
Primer on the 25th
Finishing on the 26th
Cabinets on Feb. 7th
Painting on Feb. 18th (though he may mean March for these last two, because last I checked you put your primer on before you painted. Plus, they're at the end of the list, so I'm thinking March.)
Of course, the list is not exhaustive and there are many things that need doing that are not on here, but it gives you some idea of what's ahead.

Approximate move in date - May 15th

Windows, but....

The house is all windowed.
But, two of our windows are damaged!
This one in the living room,
and this one in the craft room. They'll send out replacement windows, but they should have just sent out nice ones in the first place! Oh well.
The rest of the windows look good.
Here's Kaitlyn in her room,
and the guest room.
Even the basement has its windows in place.

Windows!

We have windows! The guys are putting up windows today.
So far we have a window in the powder room, the office and the living room. More to come!

Locked Up!!

The house is at lock up stage! Well, locked up except for the fact that there's still big holes where the windows should be. They are scheduled to arrive on Wednesday morning. There's locks on all the outside doors. Here's the front door,
the deck door,

and these are the doors in the garage - the left one is to the house and the right one is to outside.

And in order to keep people out they had to put up some dry wall in the garage. It looks so much more finished with drywall!

The electrical is very close to being finished. Here you can see where the lights will hang from in the drop ceiling abouve the island.

Lock & Key

We've got locks for our doors now. Darcy and Torrey installed the first one on the garage door to make sure they knew how to do it. The windows are coming Monday or Tuesday and then we'll be all locked up!

Working Weekend

There were lots of people working on our house this weekend. Gord and Torrey finished off the pipes for the vacuum. They hooked up the outlets - two on each floor as well as two sweep-under-the-counter things on the main floor. This one, along with the heating vent, will come out under the kitchen island. The other one is in the mud room. Nicole came out to help Chris finish up the electrical. Torrey helped, too. These red wires are for the low-voltage lighting under the cabinets. Darcy had a few things to finish up before the inspection next week and Rachael, Kaitlyn and I swept a bit of the basement.

This Sucks!

Well, not yet it doesn't but it will! The Vacuum, that is. Gord and Torrey are installing it now.
I wasted two hours of my life today. The cabinet guy is in Surrey (not sure why we had to use them - there's plenty of good cabinet makers here in town! But he's the one the builder always uses) and I had to drive out there to decide some stuff. Most of it was already picked but there were a few minor details left. Kaitlyn and I got there, I set her up with snacks and coloring and then ten minutes later we were packing up because we were all done already! So we were basically in the car for almost two hours! Oh well, at least I won't have to go back!

I Got The Power!

We have power! No longer do we have to borrow from the neighbours, we've got our own electiricity!
Torrey's been busy pulling wires all day.
We're ready for Chris to come back and hook everything up!

Stop, Drop and....

...no rolling here, just the drop in the ceiling. Darcy framed a drop in the ceiling over where the island is going to go. It comes down about a foot, then goes over 6 inches or so and back up 6 inches. It's kinda hard to tell from the picture, but it should look good once it's all finished. We're going to have crown moulding around the top and painted wooden slats in the inside part where the 3 pendant lights will hang down from. Stay tuned to see how it looks!
The fireplace is all done framing, too. In this picture it kinda just looks like a big black space so...
...here it's over-exposed so you can see how the fireplace acutally looks.

Warm & Cozy

Now we're all set to snuggle up by the fire. If only the atmosphere was a little less... construction-y! All in good time.
Here's our door to the back deck. It looks like there'll be a window above the door, too.
There's electrical boxes hooked up for the lights beside the garage...
...and a box for the ceiling fan in the master bedroom.

Cozy Warm By The Fire

Well, not exactly warm - it's freezing outside! But at least it's sunny! Our fireplace is being installed today. And yes, it did get drywalled in there. We also got some doors yesterday and today. Three yesterday, one today and we're still waiting for one more! Why didn't they deliver them all at once? Good question! This is our front door. But it's not going to be this color. I think the color is Coffee Bean, or Chocolate Bean, or something dark brown about a Bean.
This is the man door to the garage. We also got the basement door yesterday and the door to the back deck today.
Chris and Torrey have been hard at work.
There's wires all over the place now. This is in the garage next to the electrical panel.

Electrical Stuff

Chris and Torrey are working on the electrical all day today and tomorrow. No pulling wires yet. Mostly drilling holes, figuring where things go and putting in the plates and the pot lights. Lots of pot lights! These are the pot lights in the living room. Two directional ones over the fireplace, four around the edge of the room and one ceiling fan in the middle. Should be nice and bright in there. I hate trying to read in a dark living room. We're going to make them dimmer switches so we can adjust the brightness.
And these are some of the pot lights over the front porch.
The fireplace is scheduled to come today, but it has yet to arrive. It is all insulated and ready. We thought it needed to be drywalled in there, too, but that hasn't happened so apparently not?
