No, the house isn't finished yet. But the driveway and front porch are finished. Well, the floor of the porch still needs to be done, but we'll do that just before we move in.

Sunny Day
Well, the sun came out after all! They were able to spray the top layer off the driveway just after lunch today.
It looks good! They made the "lines" (to keep the rest from cracking) curved to match the curve of the driveway. It looks so much nicer than boring straight.
Ami came out to stain the front porch. We found an old paint roller left at the house we're living in by the guy who painted it and attached it to my broom handle to save a LOT of time! And time is money, so that's good. You can see her painting on the porch while the guy was spraying the top layer off the concrete.
Have You Ever Wondered...
...why we drive on parkways and park on driveways? I don't know, either, but we have one now. A driveway, that is. Not planning on owning any parkways. Darcy formed up the driveway and sidewalk to the back stairs yesterday. It was supposed to be a nice sunny day today. Perfect for pouring concrete. But the gray clouds showed up instead. Fortunately the rain held off enough for them to pour, anyway. They'll put some sugar on the wet concrete so that the top won't set. Then tomorrow they'll spray off the top exposing the aggrigate and leaving it looking like shiny rocks. Apparently there's some concrete out there that has metal that will rust and sharp rocks in it, and when you do this to that kind of concrete it isn't very nice looking or easy on the feet. But this isn't that stuff. We got the good stuff that'll look nice and be a little more gentle on the feet.

I'm Waiting!!!
The finish carpenter is tied up but is expected to arrive next Wednesday. The siding guy could come whenever. So, once again, we're playing the waiting game.

Insulation
They're filling the attic with insulation today. Warm in the winter - cool in the summer. Just the way we like it!

Think Pink
So, what do you think of the new color I picked? The girls like pink so we went with it throught the whole house! Kidding! This is the primer!
They prime the top part white so that if some of it accidently hits the ceiling you can't tell. The bottom part they did pink because you can see imperfections in the drywall in color, but not in white. That way you can fix them before you paint it.
Also, we have some dark colored rooms and the darker primer helps hide the white better so you don't need a million coats of paint.
They do the mouldings and baseboards next because they need to spray it with a machine. It looks 5 times better than painting by hand. No streaks.
We picked out our lights today. Sorry, no pictures.

Today
He filled in the holes at the side of the house.
And he smoothed out the back yard. All it needs is some grass! Maybe a bit of topsoil first.
The baseboards and crown mouldings have arrived, just waiting for the finishing carpenter to do something with them.
Tomorrow we make another trek to Surrey - why is everything in Surrey! - to pick out lighting.

Painted Garage
Here's a look at the French Doors going in to the master bedroom. That'll look real nice!
And Mr. Digger Man finished smoothing out the dirt. All set to form the driveway.
So does anyone else think this is strange? Our design lady who's helping us with colors etc. said that the painters come in and prime the walls, then the finish carpenter comes and puts the mouldings and baseboards on, and then the painters come and paint the walls. Wouldn't it be WAY easier to paint the walls and then put the finishing stuff up? That's got my vote!
Smooth Move
The digger man is here today to smooth out the front yard. He'll take some of the dirt and move it to fill in the holes by the window wells on the left side of the house. Once it's all smooth they can form up the driveway and sidewalks and then pour them!
Darcy finished the shakes on the gables yesterday. The one in front is stained, but the one behind it isn't yet. Not that you can see much of a difference in the pictures, anyway. Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Shake Some More!
One gable is done.
The back deck is being stained.
The rain held off and it looks good for tomorrow, too.
Shake It Up, Baby!
Darcy and Jeff are putting the cedar shakes on the gables today.
Jack is covering the windows and floor of the back deck, getting ready to stain the timbers.
This is the new wall in the basement. It's to hide the unfinished part of the basement. Not that the other stuff is really finished, but it's got drywall and carpet.
Our interior doors came today. Here they are:

More Stuff
They got the house all cleaned up and vacuumed today.
One wall of the garage is primed - and we're not painting it, so I guess one wall is done!
Darcy finished the "spokes" for the timber framed deck.
Builders keep delaying Darcy on his work, so they'll be back again tomorrow putting up the cedar shakes on the gables.
Let There Be Color!
They're painting the trim - and what a good day to do it! Sunny and warm - for February, anyway. The color is actually dark green, but it's kinda hard to tell because it's wet.
Ami started putting the primer on the garage wall - and it looks like paint! We assumed the primer was going to be white because that's what it usually is, but because it's tinted like that, we're just going to leave it! We'll either return the paint or keep it because it was so cheap and maybe paint the basement or something.
They're done fixing the gas line. Kind of a pathetic patch job on the road, but sometime in March they're repaving the whole road, anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter.
Inside they're busy sweeping the big stuff
and vacuuming the little stuff. It's a big job!
Lots Going On Today
The house got sanded everywhere yesterday. The guys are vacuuming today so it'll be nice and clean for paint.
Speaking of paint, Ami is coming to prime the garage today. Darcy got a great deal on the paint because we didn't really care what color the garage was. Someone had returned some unused beige paint and so Darcy bought it up for real cheap.
Ami will also paint all the trim outside and stain the wood decks.
They're also building a wall in the basement to hide the unfinished area, and so the carpet will have something to end beside. I told you there was lots going on today!

Ceiling
They sprayed the ceiling yesterday. It's just a little bumpy. Less bumpy than the ceiling we've got right now.
After they sand everything they'll start with painting.
Darcy said that even though it cost a bit more we should paint the rooms the color we want from the start. So I will be getting my burgundy office and the bathrooms will be more of a tan color.
Here is the finished Rain Screen on the gables.
