Here's Looking At You

The people from Glass World came today and installed a few things. These mirrors are in the ensuite. The have yet to bring mirrors for the other two bathrooms. They installed the towel racks and toilet paper holders, the shower curtain rod, the shelves in the closets in the bedrooms, the hall closets, and the linen closet. The glass shower doors in the ensuite are on back order and should be arriving before we move. They were gone before I could ask about when the walk-in closet and the pantry shelving will arrive. Chris was there finishing up his stuff. The end is in sight! And the plumber was there switching the shower head in the main bathroom to a hand held, and a bunch of other stuff.

Plugged In

Chris was the only one working on the house today.

He was working on the plugs and switches.

These plugs are black because they will be in the bookshelf (that's hopefully coming very soon!) which is the same color as the cabinets in the kitchen. The plug on the side of the island will also be black.

These lights in the girls bathroom also went up yesterday.

Working Weekend

There was no long weekend at our house this May! On Monday we had lots of people over to help us get the house finished. Darcy was able to finish staining the front porch and cross numerous things off his to-do list.

Gord and Shannon came and helped. We had to pull all the metal mesh off the front because we didn't know rainscreen was mandatory. So that had to come off so we could put the rainscreen on, and then have it inspected.

Lots of lights went up. Nicole put up the pendant lights in the kitchen.

Torrey put up a bunch of lights and this fan,

Chris put up the dining room light

and hooked up the hood fan, among other things.

and these are in the powder room.

Thanks to this special switch,

the pantry light will come on whenever I open the door.

We had to modify some ladders to make it tall enough for Chris to reach the light on the back deck.

Darcy made sure it was good and sturdy, while Chris got to climb. Good thing he's not afraid of heights!

The light looks a little small in the massive-ness of the roof, but it'll have to do. Those lights are expensive!

And while all this was going on, the girls happily played with the styrofoam from the light boxes and made a castle.

I finally got all that grout sealed. Then I cleaned out the laundry room, cleaned what I could in the bathrooms, vacuumed the sawdust off the top of the cupboards in the kitchen, vacuumed the sawdust out of the window sills, and was the official photographer of the day.

Lights, Camera, Action!

The lights had arrived, I was there with my ever-ready camera, and Chris and Nicole came to give us some action! They installed a few lights for us yesterday.

Nicole is very speedy at it. She's obviously been recruited before!

And we had a few helpers ready with the lightbulbs!

We had bought a few lights on super-sale at Home Depot way back in December or something and only now got around to opening them. We got a set of two lights for the powder room, and two different lights for the master bedroom. But do either set of two lights match eachother? NO! That would be way too easy! The actual fixtures match eachother (at least, I think. I didn't actually look that closely) but the glass enclosure type parts don't match eachother! The master bedroom light is a candle-looking thing, one being blue, the other yellow! And the picture on the box is white! Crazy! So we'll have to go back to Home Depot and see if they'll do anything. Very annoying!

Chris also installed the NuHeat thermostat. But we definately won't be needing to heat the tile floor in the ensuite any time soon! It's actually nice and cool in our house, even though it's scorching hot outside. We got the heavy-duty windows and good insulation which keeps it pretty cool inside. Just in time for the summer!

Darcy put the finishing touches on the fence. We're going to leave our gate for now. Low on the priority list.

And Dan our neighbour spray-stained it yesterday.

I was back, sealing that grout again! Still not done. What a lot of work. And at the end of a hard days work, the girls got to ride home in the back of the pick up truck. Fun times!

Sealing

No, I don't mean "ceiling", today I was sealing the grout and the tiny tile in the kitchen. Apparently they weren't tile but actually rocks that needed to be sealed. John came by at 9 this morning and showed me how to do it. Though he was using this bottle with a paint brush type thing at the end that kept breaking, and even he was having trouble with it! So I figured I would be more comfortable with a paint brush, anyway. Well, it took me from 9 till about 1:30, with a quick lunch break, to get the kitchen done. Then I had time to do one wall of the girls shower before I had to go get Rachael from school. I still have the other two walls of their shower to do as well as the entire ensuite, which has mucho tile. Guess what I'm doing this long weekend? Chris came this morning to do a plug/switch count - over 70! Nathan came this afternoon finishing up the baseboards, and as I was leaving John came to prep for the rock on the front of the house. It's supposed to come in a week, along with the rock for around the fireplace. I don't know when these grates for over the window wells came, but I just noticed them today. Now we don't have to worry about the girls falling in!

And look, I do have another tap on the outside of the house! I thought it was pretty strange to only have one!

Blinding!

The blinds have arrived!

Not only that, they are installed!

It took two people less than half an hour to install all of them! Of course, there were only 9.

I spent the day cleaning tile. Before:

After: I had to wipe of the dusty stuff with a dry cloth. But that didn't really get it all off, so I vacuumed it. But then the tile still looked a little dirty so I wiped it with a damp cloth. I think that'll have to do!

Tomorrow morning John is coming by to show me how to apply the sealer. So that's what I'll be doing tomorrow. I also vacuumed the playroom, the stairs going down, and all the bedrooms and hallway upstairs. I still have the stairs going up to do, as well as the living room and office. We move in two weeks! Yikes, that's fast! And I still have a million things to do! Blogging is not one of them, so ciao for now!

In Hot Water

Well, actually the water is turned off at our house right now, but that's because they installed the hot water tank.

Nathan was working on the baseboards again yesterday.

And our laundry tub in the garage has the faucet. I'm sure it got put on when all the other plumbing stuff did, but I just forgot to take a picture. So here you go.
